Review of Garmin Forerunner GPS Watches

Posted on 25 November 2008 by Ditto

Nowadays communication and navigation systems like the Global Positioning System (GPS) are becoming more prevalent in athletics and sports including jogging, biking, competitive rowing, and skiing. With the Garmin Forerunner GPS watches, you can learn your actual rate and your median and most impressive speeds along with the distance which you crossed. This communication and navigation system manufacturing company has released its Forerunner GPS brand of watches. You choose between the 50, 101, 201, 301, 205, 305, 405, and 705 models of the Garmin Forerunner offering of watches.

These models give you some normal as well as specific features. Of course, every one of the GPS forerunner watches will give you accurate details of your location and all relevant statistics concerned with your speed of activity, but a few of them have additional features such as keeping tabs on your heart rate, a computer info recording interface, a GPS transmitter, speed and pace targeting alarms, distance alerts, lap details recorder, auto time and distance splits, and a milometer.

The heart rate monitor provides you with accurate data on your heart when you are running or exerting yourself. It is very important to keep an eye on one’s heart rate when one is working out or burning extra calories, because that will offer you an idea of it your efficiency. Exercises are supposed to be done at prescribed rates and they can have an unwanted effect on the heart if you go astray from the prescribed intensity. The 301 model is great on this front, giving you a heart rate monitoring capability.

With the computer info recording facility, you can download your exercise information on to your computer and work on them via some compatible software. Both the 201 and 301 models have the computer data-recording function. The GPS transmitter is usually found as an integral feature of GPS watches in the Garmin line. It allows you to note the latitude and the longitude of the location on which you are situated at present. But they make your watch feel a bit more weighty.

If you are a professional runner, you might want to be notified when your pace goes past or falls beneath a set limit. Your Garmin Forerunner GPS watch can make this happen. You can also tell the watch to go off when you go over your desired distance. If you think viewing too many details is going to distract you, just turn to the smoothing feature to cover over any minute differences. The Lap recorder allows you to keep track of and save your details for each individual lap that you take during your sprint. The Autosplits function allows your watch to take recordings measured in time and distance. The milometer keeps tabs on the distance that you’ve traveled.

The Garmin Forerunner GPS watches are perfect for you if you are a professional athlete.

The Business Advantage To GPS Tracking

Posted on 01 November 2008 by Ditto

If navigation is the process of getting something from one site to another, then tracking is the process of monitoring it as it moves along. Global positioning system and its tracking systems that is suitable for GPS vehicle tracking and general GPS asset tracking applications is one of the best things that the GPS has to offer.

There are lot of commerce and industries that rely on fleets of vehicles to deliver goods and services either across a crowded city or through nationwide corridors. So, effective fleet management has direct bottom-line implications, such as telling a customer when a package will arrive, spacing buses for the best scheduled service, directing the nearest ambulance to an accident, or helping tankers avoid hazards.

Global positioning system used in combination with communication links and computers can provide the backbone for systems tailored to applications in agriculture, mass transit, urban delivery, public safety, and vessel and vehicle tracking.

So it’s no surprise that police, emergency, and fire departments are adopting systems like Trimble’s global positioning system-based AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) Manager to pinpoint both the location of the emergency and the location of the nearest response vehicle on a computer map. With this kind of clear visual picture of the situation, dispatchers can react immediately and confidently.

Chicago developed a global positioning tracking system to monitor emergency vehicles through their streets, saving precious time responding to 911 calls. And on the commercial front, two taxi companies in Australia track their cabs for better profit and improved safety.

A GPS-based automated vehicle tracking system helps a Boulder, Colorado transportation company to keep its high-frequency commuter buses on schedule in varying traffic and road situation, buses are the only possible alternative for short-route public transit systems.

They are relatively inexpensive, can be quickly deployed, and are easily rerouted to provide accommodation changes in usage patterns. Introduction of a GPS-based automated vehicle tracking systems has helped the local transportation provider to keep its high-frequency HOP route on schedule.

Once you install a personal-GPS unit into your vehicle, you can monitor its position yourself from your PC or laptop and enjoy the great accuracy and simplicity of this system. The GPS Unit installed in any vehicle will only consist of a small box with an antenna. But this unit will be getting info from a high-tech moving lab in outer space.

There are a range of battery powered GPS systems designed using state of the art GPS technology to maximize battery life while giving the highest possible performance and flexibility. Unlike GPS units from before, there are now complete standalone GPS tracking units integrating a 16-channel parallel global positioning system receiver and are offered in both GPS data logger and GPS real-time tracking configurations.

Most are weatherproof, small in size and feature magnetic mounts making them ideal for covert GPS tracking and law enforcement applications. They are also ideal for any commercial GPS tracking application where external power is not available such as GPS location of shipping containers, industrial equipment and stolen asset recovery.

Some companies allow demand for customization of their GPS tracking and embedded system development and can draw on considerable in-house expertise to make sure the new GPS product reaches market on time and within budget.

Gps Tracking can make a world of difference in how a company operates. It is a worthwhile investment that makes tracking a fleet or a person a lot easier.

GPS Gadgets: How Do They Guide Us?

Posted on 19 October 2008 by Ditto

GPS systems may seem rather on the pricey side at first glance, but if you take the time to understand how they work, it helps to make the cost more fair in your mind.  GPS systems are added – and more frequently, standard – features in the latest cars, PDAs (Personal Data Assistants) and cell phones.  The succeeding paragraphs will attempt to provide a simple overview of how GPS systems operate. Complete technical details can be found in other articles published on the Internet.

Let’s Get Started

There are some 2500 satellites currently in orbit around the world.  Many of these are global positioning satellites.  But only 36 of them are actually still in operation with many others having been retired.  A low-power signal is transmitted by the satellites which can be received by the GPS system in your car or cell phone.  By obtaining a signal from three of these satellites, a GPS is capable of measuring the distance from each and determines a position based on that information.

GPS systems satellites are about seventeen feet across when their solar power panels are fully spread out.  They are powered by the sun and also by a backup battery supply if needed.  They are constructed to last ten years (knock on wood). The oldest satellite is from 1978.  His task is to tell the younger satellites how tough it was in his time and how much better the new models have it. Just kidding!

But Seriously

So what is a GPS receiver?  Any electronic device that is able to receive signals transmitted by the GPS satellites is a GPS receiver.  There was probably a GPS receiver on that cruise ship you were on last summer, another in the taxicab you took to the airport last week and then there’s that Navigon 7100 GPS that your boss just purchased for his car.  The standard cost of a personal GPS systems receiver is around $300.  Considering you didn’t have to invest anything to design and launch the satellite into space, $300 is a fairly reasonable price.

The US government is responsible for paying the costs involved in fabricating and launching satellites into orbit.|Our government here in the US has decided to take on the costs needed in creating this network of GPS satellites. All you have to do is turn on your GPS system in order to make use of the data that is freely transmitted by them. Hopefully now you have a better understanding of how your GPS system works the next time you turn it on.

GPS Handheld Tracking Systems

Posted on 20 September 2008 by Ditto

GPS car tracking

There are many different types of auto navigation systems. Among the many you will find those that come factory installed, those that are attached to the interior of your automobile through the use of suction cups, and still others that are handheld devices which can simply be installed by attaching a cord to your cars cigarette lighter. These devices don’t offer quite the functionality and ease of use as some of the other (need I say pricier) types of navigational devices but you should not be fooled by features that you might not find all that useful in reality.

Being a bargain hunter is what I do. There really is nothing I can do to change my thrifty (some might say cheap) nature. I like having nice things but would like to get them while spending as little money in the process as possible. For this reason alone I decided to seriously consider some of the many handheld navigational tools on the market today.

There are many reasons I find these devices attractive. First of all, they suit many purposes. Not only are they useful when traveling by car (if you purchase the right software of course), they are also quite useful when taking your travels off road as well. You can use them four wheeling in the country, riding horses in wide open spaces, hiking in the hills and mountains, or when getting away by bike for the day. My personal favorite use for these nifty tools however is on the side roads. I’m a horrible navigator and a mapping GPS car tracking handheld is just the thing to keep me on track and on target.

I really dislike the feeling of being lost and not in control of my whereabouts. It is a frightening feeling that is only intensified whenever there are children on board during those lost moments in time. Only someone who has ever experienced that feeling while looking into the eyes of her babies and feeling so alone on top of being so lost can really understand. The fear can be overwhelming in these types of situations if they were to take place.

The best action to take is proactive. Avoid putting yourself in situations where you will feel lost. This of course, hasn’t always been possible in the past. Having a navigational device on hand at all times can go such a long way towards alleviating that fear and calming any qualms someone may have about the need to travel to unfamiliar places at time. Since there are those few times when we do become lost, it’s best to know that these systems can assist us to find our way back safely.

If you are looking for a great gift to give almost anyone on your Christmas list this year, a nice handheld GPS tracking system with mapping capabilities is a great gift to give. Of course, you do not really need to wait until the holidays in order to give a gift such as this-especially if you are giving it to someone whose safety is of great importance to you. I think anyone who drives, bikes, boats, floats, hikes, or rows could find a great deal of use for tools such as this, particularly females who enjoy these activities and occasionally enjoy them alone.

No matter what your specific needs in auto navigation systems may be, there are many systems that could suit them quite nicely. Take the time to study what is available and reconcile your needs with your budget in order to find the one that will work best for you. Extra features on the GPS mapping systems makes them attractive when both in and out of the vehicle. Good luck in finding the perfect auto navigation system for you. It’s out there somewhere.

Cheap GPS Systems

Posted on 07 September 2008 by Ditto

To help people find their way around today’s technology has invented the gps system. This system is otherwise known as Global Positioning Satellite systems. The gps systems use the satellites which have been made to help with navigation, tracking and location coordinates. You will be able to buy various appliances which have been equipped with the gps systems. As there is a wide range you may be able to find some cheap gps appliances to use.

This however means that you will need to see about the various features that are present in these devices. With a gps system you should be able to see the monitor interface clearly. Your new cheap gps interface should be able to provide you with easy to see clear maps. Also to change from one feature or section of the map to another the touch screen should be in excellent working condition.

The different gps systems will also have varying prices which are also dependent on the features which are embedded into the system. For the most part you should be able to find a cheap gps within the price range of about $100 to $400 USD. Now just in case you feel that this price range is very expensive you might want to reconsider that thought.

The newer gps systems which have many new and improved features come in the price bracket of $999.99 and upwards. You can even find a not so cheap gps system available for the healthy price of – quick find a chair and have a fan near by - $2,000.00 USD. Now when you look at these price comparisons you must admit that paying about $200 is better than the high price of $2,000.00.

Once you have gotten past this shock point we can proceed. You will need to do some shopping and choose the cheap gps model which has all of the features that are necessary for a gps. These features should be a low price, an excellent quality touch screen monitor, a visible and easy to read interface.

The street maps should also be clearly visible. The route you will take and your current position highlighted so that you can see them even in the darkness. The various street names, railway crossings, hospitals, and other venues of importance should be shown and stated well. The voice prompts which are part of the gps systems should be heard clearly even on a cheap gps.

As technology is meant to help us you should choose the items which will provide this help. While getting the brand new products that are available can show your status and prestige you will need to pay a substantial price. A cheap gps on the other hand can give you all of the help you require for a fraction of the price.

GPS Navigation Maps

Posted on 03 September 2008 by Ditto

To help people find their through unfamiliar territory many devices and items have been invented. Of all of these the current favorite is that of gps systems. These systems work on the principle of a tracking system that bounces signals off of orbiting satellites which have been made especially for this need. The information you receive is translated into the form of gps maps.

These gps maps show you the current position you are in and the final destination point. You will also be provided with a highlighted route to take. In most cases the route will be the quickest and the most efficient way to arrive at your destination. There are a few cases where the gps system will not be able to provide you with the needed information. This is due to the insufficient data that has been provided to the system.

However you can rectify this situation by installing more updated gps maps. These new maps will have lots of extra information. In some instances you can also add city maps of countries where you are hoping to visit. Imagine being in an unfamiliar country and being able to drive in that country without any hassles.

In these gps maps you will find lots of valuable information. Among the information you can look into is the names of streets, various venues like hospitals, restaurants, hotels. As these are places of importance to travelers the gps maps will contain this information. The best way you can get hold of this information is to use the touch screen interface that is found with the gps systems.

When you use the touch screen interface the gps maps will show you the different streets in your locality. Based on the information you feed the gps system you will be shown the fastest route to take. This route will be shown more clearly as compared to that of the others. The onboard computer voice will enhance the information you receive from the gps maps.

With each of the gps systems that are available the gps maps are formatted differently. Some of the maps will show the route highlighted, while the other roads are depicted in a faint background picture. On some of the maps the gps system will also show many other pieces of information like near by trees, bodies of water, places of interest, railway crossings and others.

These are various items which are required for the traveler. The many different forms of gps maps will let you see and choose the best way to travel to your final destination. With the help of these gps maps you can be assured of reaching your travel destination quickly and safely.

Garmin Forerunner 405 Review

Garmin Forerunner 405 Review

Runners no longer have to choose between function and fashion. Runners Market now carries the latest technology in GPS watches. The Garmin 405 has no arm or waist pods and the watch is no larger than any regular size running watch.

The Garmin Forerunner 405 is the ultimate in training technology, its sleek design features a touch bezel that lets you quickly scroll and select features on the run. It is a fitness watch that comes with GPS, heart rate monitor, and software for analyzing all the collected information . The Forerunner 405 is water-resistant (IPX7) and can be used outdoors or indoors (with an optional foot pod), making it the ultimate year-round, all-weather training tool. And the high-sensitivity GPS receiver sustains satellite reception, whether you’re tackling a trail or jogging through the urban canyons of skyscrapers.

The Garmin Forerunner 405 HRM allows you to create a running mate based on time, distance, or speed goals. The cool part is that on the watch screen there are two little digital runners, so you actually have someone to compete against. Built around the same principles as the Forerunner 305, the Forerunner 405 features a smaller volume watch with a slick almost i-Pod like feel.

The Garmin Forerunner 405 Watch is for long runs, tempo runs, and speed drills. You expect a lot from your body and from your training gear. This GPS watch is an amazing watch for runners. Its best feature is that even though it has a GPS in it, people consider it as an ordinary watch and some even liked it.

The Garmin ForeRunner 405 is a watch that secretly houses some insanely advanced computing. Data acquired by the Forerunner may be analyzed with MotionBased.com, a web-based application that has partnered with Garmin. MotionBased™ provides in-depth analysis of your workouts, online mapping and route sharing that will take your training to the next level. Data can be analyzed by downloading free Garmin Training Center (GRC) software on your computer from the Garmin website. GTC allows you to track your time, speed, distance and calories burned.

Here are some of the features in the Forerunner :

  • Advanced Workouts: Set up workouts with specific durations and targets
  • Simple Workouts: Setup up workouts based on time, distance, and calories burned
  • Virtual Partner: Displays an animated training partner who will run at the set pace, so you can see if you are keeping up or falling behind.
