Maximize the Life of Your Laptop Battery
Perhaps your laptop battery is not lasting quite as long as it used to and you’re not quite sure what the problem is with your battery. There could be several causes as to why your battery isn’t lasting as long as it used to and holding a charge. Usage habit could be one of the reasons why your battery isn’t hold charge very long.
The devices that are the primary sources of the battery charge expended are the hard drive, floppy drive and the CD-ROM. There may be processes you are using that deplete the physical memory resources in your system, the system will convert to the virtual memory to complete the process you are currently involved in completing. Virtual memory is devised to expand system memory resources by creating a memory swap file on the hard drive and then transmit the necessary data between the hard drive and the physical memory.
The hard drive uses plenty of electricity, the virtual memory will end up using quite a bit of electricity because it has to use the hard drive when it is producing the virtual memory. The audio and display devices can be another factor in excessive use of electricity. You can try to turn down the display screen and it will not be as bright, but it may help lessen the amount of electricity you are using. There are video devices that use graphic programs that also use quite a bit of electricity as well. Video software can also deplete your battery because it uses the virtual memory, computation and calculations.
Battery memory is also a reason why your laptop battery is not lasting quite as long as it used to last. Battery memory is where the battery actually becomes self taught to run on less time than what it really needs to run on to be effective. An example of this is perhaps you only use the laptop on battery for an hour and plug it up to recharge, the battery will become adapted to be functional for only an hour before it is tired and ready to give up.
There are a few steps to do to repair your battery memory problems. First, drain your battery completely and then recharge it. Next, go to your Windows Control Panel and select power and then turn off your Power Management. Go into your BIOS and see if there is a power management setting, if there is one, it is necessary to turn it off also. Hit your escape key to return to the top level menu. You should then select Save Settings and then Exit. After completing these steps, unplug the computer, then turn the computer back on and then let it run until it has totally exhausted the electricity.
After these processes, charge the battery for twelve hours. Once the charging time frame is over, run the computer again until the power is dead and charge the battery again for another twelve hours. Repeat this procedure four times and this will return the computer back to its original power management settings. It is suggested that you should use your battery once every two weeks, and to also keep the battery inside the system so the AC adapter can keep the battery charged all the time. Also, if you do not use the battery for more than two weeks, it is suggested that you totally discharge the battery and keep it at room temperature so it doesn’t become damaged from becoming too hot or too cold.
