Video streaming through internet requires powerful software. In the late Beijing Olympics, Microsoft use this video streaming technology to NBC websites through Microsoft Silverlight 2.0. Silverlight 2.0 is the latest Microsoft strategy to compete with the market leader Adobe Flash.
This Silverlight 2.0 will be using Expression Blend 2.0 or Visual Studio 2008 as development tools. Compatible operating systems for this latest Silverlight are limited to only Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista and 2008, fr the Mac users the compatible operating system are OS X 10.4 and 10.5. Mobile users will be able to use Silverlight if the operating system is Windows Mobile 6.
In order to develop Silverlight compatibility to compete with Adobe, recently Microsoft works with Novell Mono Team to build Moonlight. Moonlight is software video streaming and vector animation that build based on source code and testing conduct by the Microsoft Silverlight. The aim for this Moonlight is to make Moonlight or Silverlight works in Opera, Mozilla and another browser, also to make compatible with Linux operating systems.
