The flat roofs are prone to water leaks and seepages due to their slope-less architecture. Hence, they must be regularly inspected to maintain the normality of the roof setup.

Generally, such faults are the consequences of faulty roof shingles and seams. The roof components such as vents, shingles, seams, tiles etc. deserve timely inspections to ensure sound setup of your roof.

Beforehand, understand the complexity of the issue and decide whether to call in a roofer or handle the task yourself. It is always a better idea to handle the proceedings on your own and keep a supervision of an expert alongside.

Initialize the assignment by cleaning off the roof spread thoroughly. Climb up to the roof with the help of an extension ladder and observe the roof area well. Clear off the debris and leaves from the surface. Alternatively, a bristled brush with a long handle can be employed to slip into the edges of the tiles and shingles.

First, observe the roof spread closely and determine the areas that are affected with leaks and cracks. Avail the services of probe tool to do the same. In addition, carry a razor knife to cut out a fixed depth of the affected area. Give a certain defined pattern to the cut out operation. This would help in withdrawing the shingle piece to fill up the surface later.

Use a putty knife to apply roofing cement on the base of the void of the affected area. Fill the edges and the cracks of the concerned area fully with cement. Lay the first layer of shingle flat on the cemented bed. Place the next layer of shingle over the base layer and nail it down with a hand-held hammer.

Don’t use any roofing cement while placing the top layers over one another. The top layers are attached to each other using the nails only.

Envelop the final setting with a cement cover. This makes sure that the newly altered setting complements the entire roof setup.
