Fitting the Electrical Shower
Electric showers are a very economical way of washing, the amount of water used is about a third of that used by having a bath and the shower only heats the correct amount of water so there is no heating of water that you will not use.
An electric shower saves money by using only a fraction of the water that your typical shower or bath uses and only heating the water you need immediately.
The article familiarizes you with the stepwise procedure to install the electric shower in the right manner. Determine the place where you want to install the shower unit. Mark the place and drill pilot holes in the wall. To mark the place on the wall, remove the backing of the shower unit and use that as a template.
Drill a 1/2 inch hole in the shower wall to fit the copper branch pipe that will connect the shower head to the main water valve. Through the hole, the pipe is pushed. Measure and cut the pipe length to the proper size. Fit a stopcock to the end of the branch pipe.
T- joint is then to be connected into the rising main of the pluming. Connect the T- joint with the stopcock to join the branch pipe with the main valve. For this measure and cut an extra piece of connecting pipe if necessary. Secure all the plumbing and joints with the cap nuts. At last mount the shower unit.
Now to make electrical connections for the shower, make a hole in the ceiling between joists where you will mount the pull-switch. Attach the mounting board on which you will fasten the pull-switch back plate. Run a piece of circuit cable up to the ceiling, running it through the mounting board. Leave at least 6 inches of excess cable at the switch position.
Strip away the excess cable and locate a red, black and group of bare wires. Tie all the bare wires and joint them with the “E” terminal. Similarly, attach the red and black wires to the “L” and “N” terminal respectively.
Connect the supply cable running from the consumer unit to terminals in the switch face-plate. Connect the red core to the live terminal (L); the black core to the Neutral (N) terminal; the yellow-and-green core to the Earth terminal (E).
