with one comment

In the kitchen of nearly every home there is a refrigerator. The refrigerator is one of those miracles of modern living that totally changes life. Prior to refrigeration, the only way to preserve meat was to salt it, and iced beverages in the summer were a real luxury.

On the contrary these can make you frustrated. Simply no subsistence and using the appliance wrongly can be the causes. Aging of the machine also make this possible. The compressor is one of the main components of your refrigerator. The purpose of the compressor is to compress all the refrigerator gas used inside of the fridge.

When your fridge has electricity, and is running, but the inside of the fridge is hot, check to see if there is a problem with the compressor. Knowing the common problems of a compressor is a good way to learn basic troubleshooting when your fridge stops working. First of all ensure that all the electrical controls are in order or not.

Check to make sure you temperature control is in the correct position. Inspect the functionality of the freezer fan. Also listen to the sound of the compressor fan that is located at the bottom of the fridge. Ceased fans can be the result of accumulated dirt and debris on the fans. So, clear them properly.

If the compressor of the refrigerator sounds like it is turning on and off frequently, may be the relay is creating some problem. Rapid clicking of the compressor is generally caused due to dirty relay. There should be no sign of dirt and grin on it.

Before making any replacements and the repairs, cut off the power supply to the fridge. At the bottom of the refrigerator, compressor is located where the relay is wired on its extreme right. Locate the relay terminal cover. Remove the cover, and the relay will be right under the cover.

The relay can be removed simply by pulling it straight off of the compressor. Inspect both the connector and the relay for any signs of corrosion. If there are any, then you should replace the corroded part.

Use a multimeter to test the relay continuity. Set the meter to X1 and touch the probes to the contact points. The meter should read the infinity symbol. If by all efforts, you fail to repair the compressor, its time to get it repaired from a skilled man.
