The Insanity Of My Laptop Computer

without comments

I would love to go back to my younger generation. The dreaded arrival of a laptop computer makes me insane! What in the world would I do with an electric wording device?

I’m simple. Apparently though, that does not work for my grown children. They feel their mom needs to stop being “technologically ignorant.” After much quarrelling, I finally agreed to their purchasing a laptop for me.

When the gift arrived at my house, I must admit, I was intimidated. I sat in my favorite chair, and carefully opened the package. I held my breath.

I sat the package on my sewing table and looked at it for a long time. I am not sure what held my hands to my side. I finally pulled off the tape.

I was hyperventilating and could not understand why. “How can I do this?” I said aloud to myself. “I am just a country girl. I do all the tomboy things and then some, what can I do with this thing!”

I could not breathe. I could not think. “Can I survive this?” I thought frantically. “I am only a woman. I do nothing but, work all day. What makes anyone think I can deal with this monster!”

I have faced many turmoils, in my life, this little laptop computer was not going to get the better of me. But then, there was something more staring me in the face.

Yes, that is right. Those crappy instructions!

I needed to do something to stop the room from spinning! How could I learn to use this little troll box which was giggly wickedly at me! I was becoming afraid this laptop computer might be the reason for my demise!

Why was I allowing this little device to control me?

I could hear the faint ringing of a phone. When I first got my cellular phone it was difficult for me, too. It was evil to me in the beginning. Then eventually, I grew closer to it and lost my fear. Maybe, that would happen with my laptop computer.

“Mom?” I heard the voice of my eldest child. “Did you get your new laptop computer?” “Are you excited?” I did not know what to say. I certainly did not want to disappoint my offspring. They were only doing what they thought was best. I started to speak but, was cut off.

“We will be down this weekend to help you learn how to use your gift. I remember how much you hated your cell phone, in the beginning. Don’t worry. You will be an old professional at it in no time. I love you. Bye.”

Maybe, just maybe, I can become friends with this laptop computer, in the long run.
