The Sony KDL-65W5100 – Sony’s Best Interactive HDTV

without comments

Today’s HD televisions are becoming more and more interactive, and the Sony Bravia KDL-65W5100 is proof of it. This model from Sony comes loaded with many interactive features, and the best part is that it is more affordable than other HDTVs in its size range.

To keep you updated on important events, the Sony Bravia KDL-65W5100 comes with the three basic Yahoo Widgets – Yahoo News, Yahoo Weather and Yahoo Finance. Yahoo News load the quickest of them all, but only displays a bit of information and not the entire story from various categories like Politics and Entertainment, without an option to read more, while Yahoo Weather, which displays the current weather and a five-day forecast for various cities, and Yahoo Finance, which allows you to import and keep track of stock information, take a few minutes to load. These Yahoo widgets can also be found on other models and even in other brands. However, the good thing about having them on the KDL-65W5100 is that you can place them wherever you want on the screen, not just at the bottom.

There is a Twitter widget, too, so you can see the most recent tweets, which are updated real-time. You can even post a new tweet on your account, provided you have the patience to use the virtual keyboard on the screen using the directional keys on your remote.

Do you like watching online videos on your computer? If you get the KDL-65W5100, you can watch High-definition videos from Amazon Video on Demand and your favorite videos right on your HDTV screen after just a few minutes of buffering. Indeed, you don’t have to buy the Bravia Internet Video Link, which costs extra, since this Sony HDTV has built-in video streaming capability.

You can also watch videos from YouTube and a variety of clips from other providers like Sports Illustrated, CBS, The Minisode Network, Blip.tv, Howcast.com, FEARnet and Style.com, among others. A partnership with Netflix-on-Demand is also in the works, which means that soon, you can have the chance to watch your favorite movies and TV episodes instantly on your HDTV screen.

You can also access the video content stored on the other computers in your home network, since the KDL-65W5100 has enhanced DLNA capability. You can access the music files you’ve downloaded on them, too, in addition to the music you can listen to from your favorite Internet Radio stations.

Last but not least, the KDL-65W5100 wraps up its interactivity suite with an interactive program guide. Compared to the usual program guide offered by your cable company, this guide gets updated regularly via the Internet, which in turn, means that you won’t have to miss out on your favorite TV shows and movies, even if their timeslots have been changed.

These interactive features truly make the Sony Bravia KDL-65W5100 stand out from the rest of the HDTV models around, and with its great picture quality, energy-saving options and various picture presets, it certainly is an HDTV to consider if you want a large one for your spacious living room but don’t want to spend too much. Connectivity is not a problem either. As with most Sony Bravia models, the connectivity suite of the KDL-65W5100 offers four HDMI inputs – although for a change, you will find most of them at the side, together with the PC input and USB slot, and only one at the rear.
